Baying enclosure:
SZE2 or SZE3?
Updated:
Two series for rows of enclosures: welded or bolted, IP 54 or IP 55. The comparison shows which baying enclosure suits your installation.
In short: the SZE2 is the welded, economical baying enclosure with a high load capacity (up to 1,600 kg on the mounting rail frame) and an EMC version. The SZE3 is bolted, symmetrical and perforated on a 25 mm grid — with IP 55 as standard and doors on any side.

When SZE2, when SZE3?
- Choose the SZE2 if heavy built-in components such as incoming supplies and transformers have to be carried, if an EMC-tested version is required, or if IP 54 is sufficient and price matters.
- Choose the SZE3 if IP 55 is required without additional measures, if the interior is frequently rearranged (25 mm grid) or if doors are to be fitted at the side or rear — for example with installation against a wall and in narrow aisles.
Planning a row of enclosures
Baying starts with the question of how much equipment has to go into the row today and in future. Plan reserve capacity for extensions, the cable entry (floor and roof plate variants) and heat dissipation for the whole row — a row of enclosures often needs shared cooling instead of many individual units. You can put together dimensions and equipment in the electrical enclosure configurator; for tenders, there is the specification text for electrical enclosures.
Frequently asked questions about baying enclosures
What is a baying enclosure?
A baying enclosure is a floor-standing electrical enclosure that can be joined at the sides with further enclosures to form a row of enclosures — for installations whose equipment does not fit into a single enclosure or that will grow later. At ZPAS, these are the SZE2 (welded) and SZE3 (bolted) series.
What degree of protection do ZPAS baying enclosures have?
The SZE3 achieves IP 55 as standard. The SZE2 has IP 54, and IP 55 with an additional seal on the floor plate (EN 60529).
Which standard sizes are available?
Both series are available in widths of 600 to 1,200 mm, depths of 400 to 800 mm and heights of 2,000 or 2,200 mm — the SZE2 in 26 and the SZE3 in 32 standard sizes. ZPAS manufactures special sizes such as a height of 1,800 mm on a project basis.
Does ZPAS also supply baying enclosures fitted out and wired?
Yes. As part of panel building, the SZE2 and SZE3 are supplied fitted out, wired and tested from the factory. Quotation within 2 working days at most.
SZE2 or SZE3 for your project?
Send us dimensions, quantity and built-in components — we will recommend the right series and, on request, supply it fully wired.
