Calculate cooling &
heating capacity
Enter the enclosure dimensions, power loss and temperatures — the calculator determines the required cooling or heating capacity live (guide value according to IEC 60890) and directly recommends the right solution: filter fan, heat exchanger or cooling unit. For outdoor enclosures, solar load is added — the methods for this are shown on the outdoor enclosure cooling page.
Calculate cooling & heating capacity for electrical enclosures
With this free calculator you can determine the required cooling capacity or heating capacity for your electrical enclosure, server rack or outdoor enclosure in just a few seconds. Enter the enclosure dimensions, the power loss of the installed equipment and the internal and ambient temperatures — the calculator estimates the heat input and gives you a guide value according to IEC 60890. How heat is dissipated in outdoor use is shown under thermal management in the climate-controlled outdoor enclosure; for 19-inch racks, the page server rack cooling & climate control guides you through the appropriate cooling levels; the available range of units, factory-fitted, can be found under enclosure cooling units.
Based on the result, the tool directly recommends the right solution for enclosure climate control: a filter fan for low heat generation, an air/air heat exchanger, an active cooling unit (air conditioner) (CVE, ETE, CVO) for high power loss, or a heater with thermostat against condensation and excessive cooling. This helps you prevent overheating and failures and avoid costly oversizing of the enclosure cooling. How to choose the right type of cooling based on the result is explained in the guide choosing a cooling unit for electrical enclosures & server racks.
How it works: enter the values → read off the cooling or heating load and the recommended solution → if required, order the matching climate control component directly in the electrical enclosure configurator or have the sizing checked free of charge. The calculation provides a guide value and does not replace professional sizing — we will be glad to help.
