UPS &
battery cabinets

UPS systems and their batteries are the heaviest occupants of any equipment room — and the most demanding: high point loads, continuous heat, ventilation requirements. ZPAS supplies the cabinets for them: 19″ racks with up to 2,000 kg load capacity (Z-SERVER without levelling feet), ventilated, monitored and in any special size — right up to the outdoor version.

The weight sits at the bottom — the demands are everywhere

A 19″ UPS with external battery packs quickly puts several hundred kilograms on just a few rack units — usually right at the bottom of the rack. The rack has to carry this without levels sagging or doors jamming: the Z-SERVER is designed for it with 1,600–2,000 kg load capacity and reinforced levels, while the SZB IT (up to 1,500 kg) covers standard installations.

Add to that ventilation for the heat loss from charging electronics and batteries, monitoring of temperature and power — and, at outdoor sites, the air-conditioned outdoor version. For large grid-connected storage systems (BESS) outdoors: enclosures for battery storage.

Typical applications

🔋

UPS in the server room

UPS plus battery shelves in the 19″ rack — placed at the bottom, with reinforced levels and cable space for DC connections.

🏭

Industrial UPS

Protection of controls and processes: UPS cabinet next to the electrical enclosure, with the right IP rating and ventilated.

📡

Telecoms & outdoor sites

48 V systems and batteries in the outdoor server rack — temperature-managed at outdoor temperatures from −40 to +70 °C.

🏥

Critical infrastructure

Hospitals, control centres, data centres: redundant UPS rows with monitoring and access control.

⚡

Battery extension cabinets

Dedicated battery cabinets next to the UPS — with stainless steel shelves and ventilation as specified by the manufacturer.

🌐

BESS connection

Control and protection equipment for grid-connected storage systems — matched to the outdoor BESS enclosures.

Requirements — clearly classified

Load capacity & point load

Z-SERVER: 1,600 kg static on levelling feet, 2,000 kg without; reinforced levels for battery packs.

Ventilation as specified

Batteries need defined air change rates: ventilation grilles, roof fans or active cooling as specified by the UPS manufacturer.

Temperature = service life

Battery service life halves for every ~10 K of excess temperature — climate control and temperature monitoring pay for themselves directly.

Special sizes & heavy-duty plinths

Special depths, heavy-duty plinths and floor fixings for high weights — direct from production.

Fully equipped ZPAS 19-inch rack with UPS, servers and patch panel as a complete system

Why ZPAS

Because UPS projects depend on details: point loads, DC cable routes, air change rates, alarms. ZPAS supplies the rack fully designed for this — from a single rack to a redundant row, indoors and outdoors, with a quotation within 2 working days at most.

Frequently asked questions

Which rack can carry a UPS with battery packs?

The Z-SERVER, with a static load capacity of 1,600 kg on levelling feet and 2,000 kg without levelling feet, plus reinforced 19-inch levels; for standard installations up to 1,500 kg, the SZB IT. Batteries belong at the bottom — the levels there are designed accordingly.

Do battery cabinets need special ventilation?

Yes — UPS and battery manufacturers specify minimum air change rates. ZPAS implements this with ventilation grilles, roof fans or active cooling and documents the design.

How important is temperature for batteries?

Very: as a rule of thumb, battery service life halves for every 10 kelvin or so of excess temperature. Climate control in accordance with IEC 60890 plus temperature monitoring with alarms protect the investment.

Are there UPS cabinets for outdoor use?

Yes — as an air-conditioned outdoor server rack based on the SZD series with heating and cooling, so that the battery stays within its permissible temperature window. For large grid-connected storage systems, there are the BESS enclosures.
