Outdoor server cabinet:
19″ equipment outdoors
When servers, switches and UPS have to stand outside — at the mast, by the track, in the field — you need more than a sheet metal box: the ZPAS outdoor server cabinet combines the double-walled SZD aluminium series with a 19″ mounting level, climate control and access control. Direct from the manufacturer, in any special size.
Request a quote Configure an outdoor cabinetThe ZPAS outdoor server rack is a weatherproof 19-inch cabinet made of double-walled aluminium (SZD series) for servers, switches and UPS outdoors: IP 54/55, IK10, operating range −40 to +70 °C.
Server rack and outdoor enclosure in one
An outdoor server rack has to master two worlds at once: the 19″ world with profile rails, cable management and defined cooling air — and the outside world with rain, sun, frost and unauthorised hands. For this, ZPAS fits the double-walled SZD aluminium series with an integrated 19-inch level: the ventilated double wall passively keeps solar heat away from the interior, while climate control and heating keep the internal temperature within the window that the built-in equipment needs (depending on the device, e.g. 10–40 °C) — the enclosure’s operating range of −40 to +70 °C applies to the outside.
By the way: if you search for ZPAS SZD cabinets, you will also find them in IT resellers’ catalogues — ex works you get the same base in a special size, with prepared cut-outs, mounted climate control and a quotation within 2 working days at most, directly from the technical team.
Typical applications
Mobile & microwave radio
Baseband, transmission and battery equipment at the foot of the mast — compact, EMC-compliant, vandal-resistant.
Edge & network nodes
Active network equipment and edge servers outside the building — the complement to the container data centre.
Transport & rail
Trackside equipment, cameras and communication on road and rail — details on the rail & transport technology page.
Energy & generation
SCADA, telecontrol and communication at PV parks, wind sites and substations.
Industrial outdoor sites
Wi-Fi, positioning and process IT on factory sites, in ports and on logistics areas.
UPS & batteries outdoors
Uninterruptible power supply in an outdoor cabinet — for sizing, see UPS & battery cabinets.
Requirements — clearly classified
Double wall against the sun
The ventilated air gap removes radiant heat before it reaches the IT — active cooling can be smaller or omitted altogether.
Climate control to suit the load
Filter fan, heat exchanger, CVO outdoor cooling unit or AHP heat pump plus heater — sized to IEC 60890 with the cooling capacity calculator.
Protection & access
IP 54/55, IK10, 3-point locking.
19″ fit-out ex works
Profile rails, cable routes, PDU preparation and earthing are mounted ex works — on site, the IT just needs to be slid in.

Why ZPAS for outdoor IT
Because both trades come from a single source: enclosure construction and 19″ fit-out, climate control and access control — planned, manufactured and tested ex works, in any special size and repeatable for roll-outs after drawing approval. The basic design takes minutes in the outdoor cabinet configurator; for the climate question alone, see the overview server rack climate control.
Frequently asked questions — outdoor server rack
What is an outdoor server rack?
A weatherproof enclosure with an integrated 19″ mounting level for servers, switches, UPS and radio equipment outdoors — at ZPAS based on the double-walled SZD series: IP 54/55, IK10, −40 to +70 °C.
How is the IT in an outdoor cabinet cooled and heated?
Passively by the double wall, plus filter fan, heat exchanger, CVO cooling unit or AHP heat pump — and heating against condensation and frost. Sizing to IEC 60890 with the cooling capacity calculator. Plinth, foundation frame and other outdoor accessories are added ex works.
What do I get if I order direct from the factory?
Ex works you get any special size, prepared cut-outs, mounted climate control and 19″ fit-out — with a quotation within 2 working days at most, directly from the technical team.
Can access be controlled at an outdoor site?
Yes — electronic handles, door contacts, sensors and a camera log every access; alarms are sent by email/SMS.
