Data centre infrastructure from the manufacturer

Whether an enterprise data centre, colocation space or in-house server room: the requirements are the same — load capacity for ever heavier systems, airflow without short-circuit air, security down to rack level and a supplier who does not just ship cabinets but thinks of the row as a system. ZPAS has been manufacturing enclosure technology since 1973 and supplies data centres with complete rack rows with cold aisle containment, ready for equipping and documented.

The detail page Data centre & server room solutions shows the containment system; here is the industry view: what belongs in which project?

Typical data centre projects

🏢

Enterprise DC & server room

Z-SERVER rows with 42–47 U, cable management and PDU — pre-assembled for the IT roll-in.

🔐

Colocation & hosting

DSR IT with 2 or 4 separately lockable compartments — one cabinet, several tenants, access logged per compartment.

❄️

Cold aisle containment

Databox system with roof or door containment — separates cold and warm air and measurably reduces cooling energy. Can be planned directly online in the Databox configurator.

📡

Network & meet-me rooms

SZB IT for patching and network equipment, open SRD/SRX racks for secured rooms with quick access.

🌐

Edge & outdoor sites

Outdoor server cabinets of the SZD series for outdoor network nodes — double-walled, climate-controlled, −40 to +70 °C.

📟

Monitoring & access

Factory-fitted monitoring: temperature, power, door contact, video — alerts by email/SMS.

Data centre requirements — clearly classified

Load capacity & structural design

Full racks today weigh more than a tonne: the Z-SERVER has a static load capacity of 1,600 kg on levelling feet, 2,000 kg without levelling feet, directly on the floor; 1,500 kg on the castor set.

Airflow & perforation

86 % door perforation, blanking panels and brush strips keep the cold air in front of the servers — the basis of any efficient cooling.

Security & access

From 5-point locking and electronic handles to the camera inside the cabinet — access logged down to compartment level.

Scalability

Bayable racks, retrofittable containment, monitoring that grows with you — from the first cabinet to the full row without changing systems.

Norms & standards: the benchmarks for data centre infrastructure

The planning framework for new data centres in Europe is the DIN EN 50600 series of standards — it describes availability classes, building construction, power supply, environmental control and security systems. Racks and containment contribute directly to this: orderly airflow supports the energy efficiency targets, and access logged down to rack or compartment level provides a building block for the physical security concept (part 2-5 of the series).

At product level: the 19-inch level follows IEC 60297 (482.6 mm standard), the enclosure technology is certified to IEC 61439 / IEC 62208 and UL and CE-marked, and production takes place in factories certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. For projects planned according to EN 50600, ZPAS provides the product-related evidence and documentation for each order.

Typical project: colocation space with cold aisle

Starting point: an operator is extending its space by a row of twelve cabinets for a mixed customer base — from the tenant of a single compartment to the customer with three adjoining racks. Required are cleanly separated, logged access per customer, cold air in front of the servers without short-circuit air, and expandability during operation.

The solution from a single source: DSR IT with four separately lockable compartments for the small tenants, Z-SERVER for the adjoining spaces, plus blanking panels and brush strips against leakage air. The row is enclosed as a cold aisle with the Databox system, and the monitoring reports temperature, door contact and power per compartment. Delivery is ready for equipping: PDUs and cable management fitted at the factory, documentation for each cabinet — the IT rolls in on the due date.

Planning checklist: racks for the data centre

These points should be clarified before ordering — they determine the series, equipment and delivery date:

Why ZPAS for data centres

Because the chain does not end at the rack: concept, racks, containment, climate control, monitoring and assembly come from a single source — with short paths to our own production for special sizes, special colours and project-specific fit-outs. The climate control overview and the server rack configurator make the design transparent before the quotation arrives.

Frequently asked questions — racks for data centres

Which server racks are suitable for a data centre?

For enterprise and colocation the Z-SERVER (42–47 U, up to 2,000 kg without levelling feet), for multi-tenant use the DSR IT, for mixed network equipment the SZB IT — all suitable for cold aisle containment.

Does ZPAS also supply the cold aisle containment?

Yes — as a Databox system with roof or door containment, handed over fully assembled on request.

What about edge sites outside the building?

For these, there is the outdoor server cabinet based on the SZD series — double-walled, climate-controlled, −40 to +70 °C.

How is the rack monitored during operation?

With a factory-fitted monitoring system: sensors, video and access control with alerts by email/SMS.

To which standards does ZPAS manufacture racks and enclosures?

19-inch level according to IEC 60297, enclosure technology according to IEC 61439/IEC 62208, UL-certified and CE-marked; manufactured according to ISO 9001/14001. For projects according to DIN EN 50600, the product-related evidence is provided for each order.

How heavy can a fully equipped rack be?

The Z-SERVER has a static load capacity of 1,600 kg on levelling feet and 2,000 kg without levelling feet, the SZB IT up to 1,500 kg. When delivering fully equipped racks, take the point load on the raised floor into account.

Are the racks delivered ready for installation?

Yes — pre-assembled at the factory with PDU, cable management and blanking panels, with documentation for each cabinet. On request, ZPAS assembles the complete row including containment on site.
